My name is Hafeesah, the founder and creative mind behind Afiso upcycled designs.
I began sewing at the age of 12 in Nigeria, where I gained my first experience in garment making through my Aunt. During secondary school, I designed and created outfits for cultural events, helping my fellow students bring their ideas to life.
After relocating to Scotland at 15, my mum bought me my first second-hand sewing machine so I could continue my sewing practise. I soon began helping people in my community with clothing repairs and alteration.
Overtime, I began to appreciate the value of giving clothes a second life. At the same time, learning about the scale of textile waste and its impact on the environment pushed me to think differently about fashion. I started exploring ways to transform discarded fabrics into something useful and beautiful.
That journey led to the creation of Afiso upcycled designs.
With each design handcrafted from unwanted Ankara, denim, and other textiles, carefully redesigned into functional, stylish pieces.
